For more than 25 years, Barkly Driving School has provided high
quality, comprehensive professional heavy vehicle driver training to
thousands of students. Our programs are unique: unlike most driving
schools, Barkly’s truck driving instruction is conducted on a
private, one-on-one basis.
There is never more than one student in a truck. You won’t find
groups of students crowded into a truck for “observation time,” as
with many schools.
Observation time simply means that students sit in the truck and
watch each other drive. Trucking schools often do this to cut their
own costs and artificially inflate the total hours of “behind the
wheel” training—most of which is not student driving. Barkly
believes observation time offers minimal instructional value.
We believe you learn to drive by driving, not watching. At Barkly
the focus is on you. We value our students, their safety and their
training. Barkly does not compromise this to save money by training
several students in a truck. Your training is too important to us.

Heavy Vehicle Driver Training Courses
Courses for all heavy vehicle categories are tailored to suit the
customers needs and timeframes.
All courses are conducted from our location or off-site depending
on the needs of the client.
Major elements of all schedule heavy vehicle courses include:
- Road law and regulations
- System of vehicle control
- Skill maneuvers
- On-road practical driving
- Driver attitude
- Licence test assessment.
- A ratio of 1 student per Instructor.
For customers who cannot afford the time off or the upfront costs
of all scheduled courses, Barkly Driving School offers competency
based training on an individual basis.
