TLILIC3017 – Licence to drive a Heavy Combination vehicle (Automatic Gear Box)


This course is conducted over 1- Day from our Deer Park Driver Training Centre with successful students obtaining a Heavy Combination Licence endorsement. Training will be conducted in a heavy combination vehicle equipped with an Automatic Gearbox.

As of January, 2015 all students undertaking any form of training must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number. This can be obtained at If you have any problems obtaining a USI please contact the USI office on 13 38 73.

To avoid incorrect data entry, once a USI number has been created, an automated reply from the USI Registry either via email or text message containing the USI number must be brought in and shown to our office staff during enrolment.

Major Elements of the Course include:

  • Road Law and regulations.
  • On-road practical driving.
  • System of vehicle control.
  • Safe and economical vehicle operation.
  • Reversing Skills.
  • Load Securing - Chains/Straps/Rope.
  • Coupling & Uncoupling Skills.
  • Defensive Driving Instruction.
  • Driver Attitude.
  • Ratio of training- One student per instructor.
Heavy Combination Course (Automatic Gear Box)


On completion of their training students shall then sit for their Licence Test.

The test is broken down into three components.

  1. On Road Driving Test.
  2. Off Road Reversing Skills/Load Securing.
  3. Off-Road Coupling skill.

Barkly Driving School will issue successful students with a Certificate of Competence. The student must present this certificate to a Vic Roads Office to have their licence endorsed.

If the learner is taking any prescribed medication please contact our office prior to the course date as Vic Roads Medical Review may require a doctors report.
